All of our teachers are self-employed and have either a basic disclosure or DBS check. Many of our teachers also work in primary and secondary schools throughout Derbyshire. As well as a good looking bunch, they are all supremely talented musicians and teachers with a down to earth approach to learning. We feel extremely fortunate to have such a talented group of people!

Martyn Blair

Guitar Teacher

Martyn has been teaching and playing all guitar types for over 15 years all throughout the UK. He is capable of teaching all popular styles of music and caters for those just starting out on the guitar, as well as those wanting to take advanced examinations. Martyn has worked in the music industry for most of his life in retail, performance and tuition. He was assistant guitar manager at Foulds Music Shop involved in many aspects of the business and will be a familiar face to those who regularly visit the shop. Martyn has a very calm relaxed nature and will make anyone feel at ease with learning all types of guitar.

Amy Glover

Singing Teacher

Amy is one of our new singing teachers at the academy and she specialises in popular music vocal tuition. Her full Bio is coming soon......

Gemma Bower

Woodwind Teacher

Gemma is our woodwind teacher at the academy. Whilst her speciality is in teaching saxophone, she is an excellent teacher of all woodwind instruments including clarinet and flute. As well as teaching at Forte, she also teaches as a peripatetic woodwind teacher in schools across Burton. Gemma also works in the Foulds music shop which means she is also the perfect person to ask for advice on purchasing or renting an instrument. Time slots for Gemma's lessons are almost fully booked so enquire whilst you can!

Gaynor Shaw

Piano Teacher

Gaynor is a friendly, creative and experienced piano teacher - using a variety of teaching methods, she can teach you to read notes, rhythms and dynamics together with listening skills, composition and improvisation. Her teaching method integrates music theory with learning pieces - a bit like opening up the 'car bonnet' of music to see how it fits together. She can also teach you how to read chords and transpose pieces of music. She teaches all ages and skill levels and specialises in teaching adults who are either starting from scratch or remembering piano lessons from a long ago! She has a great rapport with children and teens and her bespoke lessons consider everyone's learning styles and musical tastes.

Ben Glover

Drum & Guitar Teacher

Ben has attained a spectacular first-class Honours degree in Popular Music with Music Technology at the University of Derby. Ben has a wealth of performing and teaching experience on both drums and guitar. From an early age, he rocketed through grades in both instruments with ease and is now particularly adept at guiding pupils through exam preparations. Ben regularly plays in shows and plays the drums in the band Oobleck. A truly gifted multi-instrumentalist, great with all ages and abilities.

Elisaa Johnson

Piano Teacher

Elissa has been playing the piano from the age of five years old and is now an expert in her field. She has many other musical talents including singing and woodwind instruments. Elissa has a special talent for teaching and is equipped to help complete beginners and more experienced players equally well. Along with work at the academy, she teaches piano in schools as a peripatetic teacher. Elissa was our very first piano teacher at the academy and has been with us from the start. A very popular teacher of ours often with a waiting list! As it stands Elissa is only taking on a handful of new students so get in touch while you can!

Paul Tabor

Guitar Teacher

Paul has been teaching all forms of guitar privately and in schools for many years and is a regular gigging musician based in Derby. Paul is capable of teaching complete beginners all the way to grade 8 and beyond and also teaches the drums as well as the guitar. As well as teaching, Paul is in a number of bands that regularly perform in Derby and the rest of the UK performing both original material as well as covers. Paul has only very select days and teaching time slots available, so book whilst you can!

Andy Gatford

Guitar Teacher

Andy is a well-recognised name in guitar tuition in the Derbyshire area. He has been teaching and performing for over 20 years and has wonderful experience in guiding students to their full potential. Andy can teach any style at any level and is a regular peripatetic tutor at Repton school. Andy also has his own song writing and music production company and has written songs for the goliath company that is Disney, as well as music for New Balance football. He has also toured with Soundgarden in the early 1990's. Jealous!

Andy Lingard

Violin Teacher

Andy is an experienced teacher of many years. He has taught and performed in bands all over the UK and is an expert in his field. As well as private teaching, Andy was previously a music teacher at Woodlands Community secondary school in Allestree for over 10 years. We are now glad to have him as one of our Violin tutors. Andy is very down earth and will make learning what can be an initially challenging instrument feel much easier, as well as lots of fun! An excellent teacher with a wealth of experience.
